Outlining an image: the sticker effect
A border around the subject separates it from whatever is behind it and gives it the look of a die-cut sticker. It's used for stickers, video thumbnails, social posts and composites where a person or a product has to stand out on a busy background.
Subject outline or photo frame
This tool draws the border along the subject's silhouette, not a rectangular frame around the photo. That's why it removes the background first: if you only need the subject cut out, with no border, use "Remove background".
