How do you convert BMP to PNG?
Upload your BMPs
Drag in the bitmaps you want converted.
Lossless compression
PNG compresses without discarding information: the image is identical but the file is far smaller.
Download the PNGs
Compatible with everything, every pixel intact.

Batch processing
Drag in dozens of files at once and download them all together when they finish.
Everything good about BMP, without the weight
What makes BMP useful in technical settings is that it loses nothing: every pixel is exactly where it should be. What makes it impractical is how much space it takes.
PNG keeps the first property and eliminates the second. It compresses without discarding information, so you get the same exact image in a fraction of the space.
The screenshot case
Older Windows versions saved screenshots as BMP, and plenty of industrial software still does. A screenshot is the worst case for BMP — large areas of flat colour that it does not compress — and the best case for PNG.
Savings of 90 % are routine there, without touching a single pixel of the image.
No file uploads
The conversion runs locally, with no file count or size limit imposed by an external service.

Frequently asked questions
Do I lose any quality?
None. PNG is lossless compression: the resulting image is pixel-for-pixel identical to the source BMP.
Then why is it smaller?
Because BMP does not compress at all and PNG does, only reversibly. It is like zipping a file: it takes less space and comes back out exactly the same.
How much do I save?
It depends on the content. On screenshots and flat-colour graphics, 80–95 %. On photographs, considerably less.
PNG or JPG?
PNG if there is text, fine lines, screenshots, or you need exactness. JPG if it is a photograph and you want the smallest possible file.
Is transparency from a 32-bit BMP preserved?
The visible image is preserved. The alpha channel in 32-bit BMPs is unreliable because many programs write it incorrectly, so the result depends on how the original was produced.
